It was started with around 40,000 students but now competition has raised a lot with around 2,00,000 students appearing in this examination.But this is not an impossible task and you can get yourself shortlisted by hard work and good preparation.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY required for NDA (National Defence Academy)

Following are requirements for being eligible as an NDA officer.

1. Nationality

candidate must be either

  • a citizen of india
  • a subject of bhutan
  • a subject of nepal
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to india before the 1st january ,1962 with the intention of permanently settling in india
  • a person of indian origin who has migrated from pakistan,burma,sri lanka and east african countries of kenya,uganda,the united republic of tanzania,zambia,malawi,zaire and ethiopia,vietnam with intention of permanently settling in india.

2.Age limit,sex and Marital status

a candidate must be an unmarried male and must have attained the age of 16  1/2 years and must not have attained the age of 19 years on the 1st january of the year succeeding the year of examination.

3.educational qualifications

  • class 12 pass of 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university, ( for Army wing.)
  • class 12 pass of 10+2 pattern of school education with physics and mathematics conducted by a state education board or a university ,  (for air force ,naval wing and naval academy.)


There will be two papers ,paper I and paper II.

  • matrices and determinants
  • trigonometry
  • analytic geometry of two and three dimensions
  • differential calculus
  • integral calculus and differential equation
  • vector algebra
  • statistics and probability

Following topics may be covered under the general knowledge section:

  • physics
  • chemistry
  • general science
  • history
  • geography
  • current events

note : for preparing current events reading newspaper daily along with  study of magazines like pratiyogita darpan,civil services times,competition success review etc. may be beneficial.

At last we shall discuss the distribution of marks which is as follows.

NDA(national defence academy) exam is held twice a year most probably around the month of april and may or june .These days joining millitary or defence services is no longer confined only to patriotism and desire to serve for nation but also NDA is seen as a good career option after class 12 because of good salary and allowance a military man gets along with pride.
